Michael Ploplis has always possessed a creative side. From very early in his childhood, he experimented with multiple forms of creation. Charcoal, carving, sculpting, turning, pastels, inks, pencil, mosaic, glass blowing, and of course, painting. Now, when most people are planning for retirement, Michael has embraced a reawakened passion for expression through painting. You're invited to follow along with Michael on his endeavor to reinvent himself, and to express his long dormant artistic nature after years of service in both the fire service and EMS.
Michael finds inspiration in feelings, emotions, thoughts, and experiences. For Michael, painting is a means of therapy, of healing. What's most gratifying for Michael, is when another human can stand in front of one of his works, and feels something.
It's the experience of sharing these feelings and emotional connections that Michael finds most gratifying and rewarding.
With a growing list of media and paint options, Michael creates highly textured and vividly colored pieces with a multitude of surfaces as his canvas.
His newest passion is exploring spray paints to create abstract paintings that have an organic inspiration or feel.
In March of 2021, Michael established his first studio space at The Rail Walk Studios & Gallery in Salisbury, NC.
November 2021, Michael held his debut solo exhibition titled "Prism Break" at The Rail Walk Studios & Gallery in Salisbury, NC.
